There were clouds and not much sun although it was hot and walking on the steep streets became tiring with the passing of time and the lack of water... lucky me there are a lot of 'cafés' in Lisbon.

This is a photograph of Rossio's fountain, taken with a fisheye 2 using slide film and cross process technique.

I like the outcome quite a lot.

From the last of summer vacations...
Alf (in the back, laying on the floor) & Puka (the beautiful 4 month little female cat).

They both belonged to my cousin (until Puka's too recent death after a surgery), one too big and scared of me that I'm not that tall and the other too small and too endering too sweet to forget.

This is a multi-exposure, done with my fisheye 2. I've been happily exploring it and I've been loving the experience. I will be posting more here, from all those films I used through sunny days.

I've been away from my blog for quite some time.
Much change this. Isn't amazing the fact that I chose a word for 2011 and was unable to live up to it!

There are days when I get home to late or to tired, also with the fisheye I have been living with that wainting feeling that borns and grows until one picks their photos up from the photolab.

But then again I really should live up to my chosen word: discipline!

Saudade *Panasonic Lumix

[* Saudade is a portuguese word hard to translate, it describes a mix of loss, distance and love. One can feel saudade of a lot of things, of someone one loves deeply and is no longer around and close, of a faraway friend, of (sacred) places with special meaning, of love, of time that has gone by.

And today on my way to work I felt saudade of those old days, when we were younger, we were all together and unconsciously I believed we were forever and of that amazingly beautiful old beach with hot water and white sand]

I'm enjoying some days of vacation under the sun, by the sea with my feet buried in the sand.

I had decided to photograph this passage when leaving the beach with the sunset as a source of light. This was made with wood from old railway roads, amazingly it still smells like trains and stations and oil.

For as long as I can remember I had this admiration for lomo photography.

Last week I finally decided to make my dream of having a lomo come true... so I bought myself a fisheye2. Now I carry it around inside my bag just in case my eyes catch something that makes my finger itch...

I have been having so much stuff to do that photography is a little bit forgotten... maybe I should enroll in a course or workshop to polish myself and go back to those moments of peace and equilibrium that I feel when I walk around with my camera in one hand, the heart in another (such great advise from Lisa) and beauty in my eyes...

2011 is my brother's last year in College... and this was is 'graduation' ceremony.

Here tradition says that students should wear the black suit with white shirt and a set of little rules must be followed, then there's the cloak which is decorated with fabric embroidery bagdes, many of the are gifts from friends and family, others are bought by the student himself.

My brother is the one on the left, is one of a kind and I love him and I am so very proud of him!

2011, o último ano do meu irmão na faculdade... e lá fomos para a cerimónia da Queima das Fitas e da Queima do Cheque.

A tradição manda que se use o traje, preto e de camisa branca, que fica uma sauna nos dias soalheiros de Primavera, que se sigam as regras dos pins e da colher roubada, da pasta e dos sapatos, e depois vem a capa decorada com emblemas bordados, muitos presentes da família e amigos, outros comprados pelo próprio estudante... e os dedos que ficam magoados e picados de coser tanto emblema... memórias doces que o tempo transforma.

O meu irmão é o da esquera, é único e eu amo-o e estou tão orgulhosa dele!

After a long hiatus I think I am able to come back to my little spot and start writing and posting and photographing again.

Many things have happen, my pc crashed and I hope I am able to recover my documents, including my photos (its backup only goes until las october, oh sadness). Also I found a part-time job which is almost like a full-time job and then I was choosen for a full-time job... so no time to breath for almost 2 weeks...

Finally, things have calmed down and I truly hope my inspiration and urge to photograph comes back in full mode.

I miss Lisa's Creative Exchange and Justine's Monthly Themes, I truly do!

Now, back to work. Hopefully I will start posting at night time ;).

I went on a door and window hunt on the old part of Lisbon. Unfortunatly it started to rain and I got soaked to the bones, had no umbrella or raincoat... It was quite the adventure!

Anyway, I just adore the lined up door bells on the left side of this really old door. Also in this building a portuguese historical personality was born.

Decidi fazer um passeio em busca das velhas portas e janelas de Lisboa. Infelizmente começou a chover, sem abertas ou intervalos, e eu fiquei molhada que nem um pinto, sem chapéu-de-chuva nem gabardina... foi uma aventura e tanto!

Continuando, eu simplesmente adora as campainhas todas alinhadas na vertical no lado esquerdo desta velha porta de tons verdes lascados. Neste edifício nasceu uma personalidade histórica que neste momento não consigo recordar quem.

This is our recovering anthurium, for some reason that we can't grasp it got sick and almost died, fortunatly it is recovering, slowly but it is.

When it was in full health I took a picture of a heart shaped anthurium, looking at that picture today it reminds me of summer, of happy days, of friends and of complicity.

Este é o nosso antúrio que se encontra em fase de recuperação, por alguma razão que ainda não conseguimos perceber a planta ficou doente e quase morreu, felizmente está a recuperar, devagar mas a recuperar.

Quando estava de excelente saúde e dava uma única flor vermelha em forma de coração, tirei-lhe uma fotografia, acrescentei um verso que aprecio e hoje quando olho para aquele pequeno coração recordo-me do verão, de dias felizes, de amigos e da cumplicidade.

This weeks theme for Sunday Creative over at Madeline's is Perspective and this photo is the one I chose to answer the challenge.

I'm a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe, and this book was bought on a sales bookstore and it's beautiful, well at least on my eyes! It is a compendium of his (fantastic) tales in english with gorgeous illustrations.

I like to sink in bed, knees bent, book on my lap and read a tale by the lamp light.

The sun is finally out and the weather is warmer. So I took advantage of one trip to the city to take some photos.

One of my favorite things in Lisbon are the balconies so full of life and plants.

I like this photo a lot, the tiles covering the front of the building, the iron balconies and the wooden windows and the tree wainting for Spring.

O sol finalmente reapareceu e o tempo está a ficar mais quente. Num dia que tive que ir até Lisboa levei a máquina e fui tirando fotografias.

Uma das minhas coisas preferidas da cidade de Lisboa são as varandas cheias de vida e de plantas que dão cor às fachadas.

Eu gosto bastante desta foto, os azulejos a cobrirem a fronte do edifício, as varandas em ferro e as janelas em madeira e a árvore à espera da Primavera.

Got sick, which took the fun out of my will to photograph or to do anything for that matter. It did cross my mind to photograph the pill box but never got to do that.

Sadly I haven't participate as much as I wanted in Justine's Partially Seen January and I had to postpone the beggining of my 52 weeks project. I hope I can start refreshed on monday.

Anyway, while looking throught some blogs I like I found out about SOOC (Straigh Out Of the Camera) and thought it would be fun to join one, and so this is my first entry for SOOC Saturday over here. This is a famous funicular in Lisbon, one of four very old funiculars that give even more charm to the city (it is a pity all those graffiti).

Fiquei doente, o que tirou todo o divertimento em andar com a máquina atrás a fotografar como se não houvesse amanhã, passou-me pela cabeça tirar uma fotografia ao termómetro e à caixa do paracetamol mas nunca o cheguei a fazer.

Infelizmente não tenho participado tanto quanto queria no Partially Seen January da Justine e tive que adiar o inicio do meu projecto 52 semanas. Eu espero conseguir começar fresca e com energia na segunda-feira.

These are my father's hands, frozen in time while working on the family's beehives.

I've always adored my father's hands.

The original is in color but I decided to transform it into Black & White and then gave it a 'film grain' treatment. I think it fits on this week's definition of Grizzled for the Sunday Creative.

O original desta fotografia é a cores, tirada num dia quente, entre a Primavera e o Verão, mas decidi-me a transformá-la numa a Preto e Branco e depois dar-lhe um tratamento com 'film grain'. Penso que se insere na definição de Cinzento, o tema desta semana do Sunday Creative.

Back {from an hiatus}

So, I decided to choose a word for 2011 which was also my resolution, discipline.

But I needed some time to get back at my feet. Had no inspiration and time seemed to slip through my fingers... fortunately it has reach an end.

So all those projects that I find interesting and haven't started yet will see the sunshine this week! After some thougth I decided:

- to definitely join a 'river of stones';

- to (re)start posting photos on the wonderful Justine's flickr group, this month with the theme Partially Seen;

- to participate on those great creative exchanges, like Lisa's and Madeleine's;

- to start a '52 Week Project'... as seen from my absence these past few days I realized that I shouldn't start a '365 days - a photo a day project', so I decided to post a photo that I [humbly] think is the best one of a week's photographic inspiration.

Ufff!

So starting tomorrow I will be posting daily (she wrote hopeful) photos, words and whatever else cames to my mind and slips through my fingers into the keyboard!

Este ano decidi escolher uma palavra que desse o mote ao meu ano de 2011 mas que também fosse uma resolução a ser tomada e por diversas razões escolhi disciplina.

Mas precisei de algum tempo para me orientar, andei sem inspiração e o tempo parecia escorrer por entre os meus dedos... felizmente esta vivência chegou ao fim.

Assim sendo, todos os projectos interessantes e pensados que ainda não comecei finalmente verão a luz do dia (ou a escuridão da noite conforme a hora) a começar esta semana! Depois de pensar e organizar decidi-me a:

- juntar-me ao projecto de escrita 'river of stones';

- recomeçar a colocar fotos no maravilhoso grupo do flickr iniciado pela Justine que vai mantendo a chama deste projecto acesa através dum tema novo em cada mês, desta vez é Partially Seen;

- participar nas trocas de conhecimento e criatividade que pessoas com coragem lançam, como o da Lisa e da Madeleine;

- começar um 'Projecto 52 Semanas'... apercebi-me que não devia começar um 'Projecto 365 dias - uma foto por dia' quando a minha ausência neste blog foi de uma semana, decidi-me a andar de máquina atrás e ir fotografando e depois colocar aqui aquela que eu [humildemente] considero a melhor foto resultante duma semana de inspiração.

Ufff!

A começar amanhã irei colocar diariamente (escreveu ela esperançosa) fotos, palavras e tudo e mais alguma coisa que me venha à cabeça e escorra dos meus dedos para o teclado!

Resolution! {or my word for 2011}

My life, for the past months, has been chaotic and sometimes hectic, with major changes, some sad, some good. I need discipline back in my life so I can get back on my feet and meet my goals for 2011!

I started today and so far, in a scale from 1 to 10? I would say 2,5... not bad!

Holiday Traditions #2 ~ Café-Concerto

Usually, me and my mom try to go to one of the many (free) Christmas concerts promoted by Lisbon's City Hall. This year we decided for something different, we went to the Winter Concert at the National Coach Museum.

I have only one word to describe it: BEAUTIFUL!!

And the location... what to say when the place is the royal ring recovered to give place to the current Museum and is the home to an amazing and rich coach collection? Nothing except the same word written above!

Hopefully next year we will have another four concerts, as many as the seasons :)!

Normalmente, eu e a minha mãe tentamos assistir a um concerto de Natal promovido pela Câmara de Lisboa. Este ano resolvemos ir a um concerto diferente, o Concerto de Inverno no Museu Nacional dos Coches.

Eu tenho uma e só uma palavra para o descrever: MARAVILHOSO!

E o local... o que dizer do local que antigamente era o picadeiro real e que hoje se encontra convertido num Museu único e riquíssimo com uma colecção de coches única? Nada, excepto a mesma palavra utilizada anteriormente.

Espero que no próximo ano se mantenha o ciclo de quatro café-concerto, tantos quantos as estações do ano :)!

A night spent in the Theatre

Never been inside this particulary Theatre in Lisbon, last night was the first time, we had the chance to buy two tickets for the price of one to see 'Fiddle on the roof'.

And I fell in love with this ceiling!

Até ontem à noite nunca tinha entrado no Politeama ou assistido a uma espectáculo do La Féria, mas num acto de generosidade (ou não) do teatro tivemos direito a dois bilhetes pelo preço de um e lá fui ver o 'Um Violino no Telhado' com minha madre.

Apaixonei-me... pelo tecto!

For A Common Thread's dare!

One of my holiday traditions is going to Lisbon's downtown and amaze myself with Christmas decorations. Every year I do my best to arrive when the sun is setting and catch the turn on of the lights, the night falling and, in some ways, magic and warmth appearing.

Para o desafio lançado pelas meninas do Common Thread!

Uma das minhas tradições de Natal é passear pela Baixa Pombalina e Chiado e maravilhar-me uma vez mais com as decorações de Natal (já alguém reparou que na rua do ouro as iluminações são douradas e na da Prata prateadas, quem pensa nestes detalhes??).

Todos os anos eu tento ir até à Baixa, já ao entardecer para ver o acender das luzes, a noite a cair e, de certo modo, a magia desta época a aparecer e o calor que se sente mesmo quando o frio é terrível.

Aqui ficam algumas fotografias tiradas este ano numa dessas investidas à baixa (nota mental: sem comprar NADA!!)
